Wait… before you look at my list below… how many ways can you think of to use maple syrup? That wonderfully gooey, sticky sweetness that makes your mouth happy and your tongue want to lick every last drop! Are you struggling to come up with more than 5? Read on for a list that will jump-start your creativity!

For starters...

> add to coffee or tea
> make maple milk
> add to club soda for a maple soft drink
> maple-lemonade
> maple-spiced cider
> homemade maple “gatorade” (Ken loves this!)

You can also add maple syrup to…

> oatmeal or other cooked cereal (or cold cereal, for that matter!)
> stir into yogurt, along with some fruit and/or nuts, if desired
> as a replacement for brown sugar in chili, sloppy joes, or baked beans

Maple syrup works well in many sauces...

> homemade maple BBQ sauce
> teriyaki sauce
> maple mustard
> use as a ham glaze

Make snacks such as...

> maple popcorn
> maple-roasted nuts
> maple floats (ice cream, maple syrup, carbonated water)
> maple milkshakes - ice cream, milk, and maple syrup in a blender
> mix maple syrup with peanut butter and make a peanut butter cracker sandwich

You can use maple syrup in all kinds of baked goods…muffins, cakes, cookies, and pies. You can find tons of recipes on the internet. (If using a recipe that doesn’t specifically call for maple syrup, you may need to adjust the other liquids in the recipe and do a little experimenting.)

Maple syrup is great in other desserts, too...

> cheesecake
> fruit crisps
> homemade ice cream - all you need is maple syrup and cream!

Other uses...

> put it in homemade granola - or ON granola!
> maple-roasted veggies
> cream cheese/maple/peanut butter dip - serve with fresh fruit, pretzels, or graham crackers
> sticky buns/cinnamon rolls
> use as an ice cream topping
> maple butterscotch sauce - pour over gingerbread or other cakes or desserts, or ice cream
> slushies or maple-on-snow
> maple jelly
> cotton Candy - of course, you’d have to have a cotton candy machine!

I use it in salad dressings, or in coleslaw or potato salad.

Barbecued Green Beans - yes, that’s a real recipe (my son-in-law's favorite)… you should try it!

There you have it, more than 30 ways to use maple syrup. I’d say that’s a good start! Basically anywhere you’d use sugar - maple syrup or maple sugar can be subbed in.

So tell me…how do YOU enjoy maple syrup? Any favorite recipes? Comment below!

When equipment breaks down...

When we make maple syrup, the finished product goes from the evaporator into a stainless steel insulated collection container, then through a filter press into a canning box.  The canning box keeps the syrup at the right temp for bottling (180 degrees) as we dispense it into jars and seal them.  It's a continuous process that can't be shut down instantaneously.  You can't turn off a wood fire (in the evaporator) that's burning at 800 degrees or more.Last week one day, our syrup filter press broke, and we had to make an emergency trip to a nearby small repair shop.  It was a bit stressful trying to slow the fire down enough to interrupt the process for a half hour or so!  But we did it and everything turned out fine.  Whew!  Good thing we have a great team!!Then it happened again a couple days later...this time in the evening - after hours for the repair shop.  Now what?!?!  Fortunately we were able to reach of someone from the repair shop and they accommodated us in our emergency.  Once again...we are so grateful for community/neighbors/people who work together and help each other out in times of need.  (Remember "When the cows escaped"?!)  Farm life 🙂!!Pretty sure it's welded good and tight now!!
